Historically Collectible Boomerangs

Some boomerangs are custom manufactured and collectable by aficionados in the sport.  Some boomerangs have sold for well over $1000. There was, for example, the "Freedom Boomerang" which symbolized freedom for boomerang throwers in East Germany as they threw the boomerang over the Berlin Wall and publicized it. Many boomerangs by crafters like the renowned Oscar Cuertas and Herb Smith are among the most revered in the world. There are very old boomerangs made by aboriginal crafters which sometimes are of value. Below are some of our historic boomerangs which we feel have collector value and are not currently for sale. They are displayed to give some examples of the range of shapes and styles which have been made historically.

John Koehler Fast Catch Boomerang

Manufacturer: Koehler, John  -  1991 World Champion

Item: Fast Catch

Origin: USA

Orientation: RH

Span: 14 cm

Weight: 34 gm

Description: This classic Koehler triblader Fast Catch made out of 5 mm Birch plywood and painted bright colors on upper surface. Signed with " '91 World Champ " on upper surface. Wear from use, but still in very nice condition. Fast. This is an example of extreme air foiling for faster turning. We can only speculate but maybe Mr. Koehler wanted to throw it almost as hard as he could to give him the minimum distance to qualify in competitions but the extreme air foil gave him a very tight turning rang to minimize time of flight per throw. These boomerangs scream around a tight flight distance of 20 meters and come back at you like a missile if thrown hard.

 Veneered Beauty Boomerang

Name: Veneered Beauty

Origin: USA

Orientation: RH

Span: 36 cm

Weight: 74 gm

Description:  A classic V shaped made out of Birch plywood and with veneers glued to upper surface to make thickness = 6.2 mm. Nice dark veneer and tips and elbow. Etched kangaroos on both blades. Signed and dated 2002. Excellent condition. Note: This is one of the most beautiful boomerangs in our collection. The lighter finish area where the Kangaroos are etched is so well done it looks like leather and the kangaroo etchings appear to be of better quality than any aboriginal would have been able to do with primitive equipment. It looks so nice we don't dare to throw it but it is an authentic airfoil which should return well.
